After visiting The Monasteries over Lake Tana, the Blue Nile Falls and the medieval castles at Gondar, we head into the Simien Mountains for a spectacular trek. The Simien Mountains have been called Africa’s “Green Grand Canyon”. The Simien Mountains of Ethiopia offer superb wilderness trekking with stunning scenery, dramatic cliffs and escarpments and the chance to spot endemic wildlife such as a troop of Gelada Baboon, Walia Ibex and Simien fox and Ethiopia’s many endemic birds and plant life unique to the mountains and the immense beauty of the mountains. Finally we visit the holy city of Axum and the famous rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, often referred to as the “Eighth wonder of the World”.


Trip Details

Addis Ababa to Gondar to 123km

Day 01 – After an early breakfast drive to Addis Ababa airport and fly to Gondar. After your arrival visit attractions in Gondar. The attractions that we visit in Gondar includes: Castles of Gondar- are included in the World Heritage List, the royal Fasiledes Bath and the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie with its unique murals and Qusquam Mariam. Drive to simien Park lodge. We drive 2 hours drive through countryside to Debark town (100 Kms from Gondar), where the head quarter of Semien Mountains National Park is found. Here we pay the entrance fees and take scout and a local guide who will accompany us.Overnight Simien park lodge

Simien Park lodge to Sankaber

Day 02 After breakfast start trekking to the first campsite of the National Park to Sankber. Overnight Camping

Sankber to Geech Camp Site

Day 03 It is this day that we start to walk in the national park. We begin the trek along all the trekking staff: including mules and Muleteers for packing and transport of camping gears and all foodstuffs. We walk from Sankaber to Geech, which will take between 5 – 6 hours. After about 1 and half hours walk we see the Jinnbar River and falls, we will cross the river later in the day. After crossing the river, we ascend for about two hour to Geech, which is full of Giant Lobelias. The scenery is wonderful, and heard of the endemic Gelada Baboon can be seen on our way. Overnight Camping at Geech Campsite (3600m).

Geech to Cheneck

Day 04 We trek to Chenek, we will be walking through the Giant lobelia trees and under these trees African field Rats are common. After picnic lunch we walk on the edge of Enatye escarpments (4000m. above sea level), which is another breathtaking view in the national park; finally we descend to Chenek. Chenek is the best place to see the endemic Waliya Ibex and more Gelada Baboon. It takes 6 – 7 hours walk. Overnight Camping at Chenek (3600m)

Cheneck to simien park lodge

Day 05 After your breakfast have a walk around the campsite to view the Endemic mamals and Birds then drive to Simien park lodge. Overnight Simien park lodge

Simien park lodge to Gondar then To Lalibela

Day 06 After breakfast we fly to the town where all the 11 monolithic Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela are situated. Overnight Lal hotel


Day 07 Today we visit the first group of six churches lie in rock cradles one behind the other: Bet Golgotha, Bet Mika’el, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel and Bet Medhane Alem. Bet Medhane Alem, the largest one, is built like a Greek Temple and its stone floor is so polished by the countless numbers of visitors that it reflects shafts of light from apertures in the walls high above. In a corner are three empty graves symbolically dug for biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. After Lunch break in the afternoon, visit of the other groups of Rock churches of Lalibela Bet Giyorgis, possibly the most elegant of all the Lalibela churches, lies somewhat isolated in the southwest part of the village on a sloping rock terrace. It can only be reached through a tunnel. The group of four, south of the Jordan River, comprise of Bet Emanuel, Bet Mercurios, Bet Abba Libanos and Bet Gabriel-Rufa’el. Bet Emanuel’s elaborate exterior is much praised by art historians. Overnight Lal hotel


Day 08 After your breakfast trek to Aheten Mariam Monastery with its great view. Overnight Lal Hotel

Lalibela to Addis Ababa to Lake Ziway

Day 09 In the morning we drive to Lalibela airport to fly to Addis Ababa then to Lake Ziway. Overnight Haile resort Ziway

Ziway to Arbaminch

Day 10 After your breakfast drive to Arbaminch, on the way visit the Chencha village, the home of the Dorze people, the renowned cotton weavers having unique beehive shaped bamboo woven houses having 8 to 12 meters height. Overnight Paradise lodge

Nech Sar National Park – Lake chamo-Arbaminch

Day 11 In the cool morning, we will make a boat trip over Lake Chamo to The park and we will walk from the lake through the Nech Sar National Park which is inhabited by different mammals including the endemic antelope Swaynes Hartbeast, Gerenuk, Grants Gazelle, and Zebra. After picnic lunch we will cruise back to see the biggest African crocodiles, and Hippopotamus as well as beautiful aquatic birds including the lovely Kingfisher and Fish Eagle. Arbaminch to Turmi

Day 12 After your breakfast drive to Turmi en route visiting different cultural people and villages. Overnight Buska lodge

Turmi to Omorate to Turmi  

Day 13 After breakfast drive towards Omorate and cross the Omo River by local boat to visit the village of the Galeb/Dasenech People, inhabitants of the lower Omo River Valley. After lunch break visit the Sunday big market of the Hamer people then drive to one of the Hamer village and visit the Hamer tribes and their villages. Overnight Buska Lodge

Turmi to Jinka

Day 14 After your breakfast drive to Jinka on the way visiting one of the biggest market of the Dimeka and Alduba tribal market. Overnight Eco omo lodge jinka

Jinka to Konso

Day 15 After your breakfast Morning excursion to the Mago National Park. The Mago National Park is located on the eastern bank of the Omo River and ranges in altitude from 450 to 2,528 meters above sea level. We cross through the park to our destination, a Mursi village. The Mursi tribe are renowned for the strange custom followed by their women who, on reaching maturity, have their lower lips slit to place a circular clay disc, a sign of beauty. Then drive to Konso. Konso to Dinsho

Day 16 After your breakfast visit the Konso people and the undulating landscape of Konso and the surrounding area. The Konso are famous for their old and unique terracing, unusual engraved wooden statues of Konso grave markers. Then drive to Dinsho which is a head quarter of the Bale Mountains National park. Overnight Dinsho lodge

Dinsho and Geysay Valley

Day 17 The whole day visit around Dinsho and Geysay Valley. After your breakfast hike to see three of the endemic mammals: Menelik’s Bushbuck, Mountain Nyala and Ethiopian wolf. Overnight Dinsho lodge

Dinsho lodge to Mararo/Sodota

Day 18 Accompanied by your guide and packhorses we trek 5-6 hrs through the lush highland vegetation to our first campsite, Mararo. The air here is clean and crisp and the scenery utterly stunning. En route you will see a number of birds like Wattled ibis, Rouget’s rail, black-winged lovebird, thick-billed raven, white-collared pigeon, Abyssinian long claw, Abyssinian catbird, white-backed black tit, black-headed forest oriole, black kite, augur-buzzard and lammergeyer. Mararo to Wassama Valley

Day 19 After breakfast we resume the trek that will last for about 7- 8 hrs. The trek offers the chance to see Ethiopia’s endemic Abyssinian Wolf. Around Worgona mineral spring, Giant Mole rat can easily be seen. Overnight camping at Wasema Valley.

Wassama valley to Gebre Guracha

Day 20 Today you trek through the highlands ascending Sanette Plateau and crossing Batu Mountain, 4200 meters. Here you have a great opportunity to see Ethiopian wolf*. You will also see a number of birds of prayer such as Lammergeyer, Vereaux’s eagle and harrier hawk. Overnight camping at the base of the valley, viewing Lake Gebre Guracha

Gebre gurache to Tulu Dimtu to Goba

Day 21 Today you trek towards the highst Mountain of the national park, this trek is the day you face back to the head quarter of Bale Mountains. The trek will take for about 4-6 hrs. Overnight camping at the top of the Mountain.

Goba to Sodere

Day 22 Drive to Sodere resort and have a visit of the hotspring and also possible to swim. Overnight in the Resort

Sodere to Awash national park

Day 23 After your breakfast drive to Awash national park and have a game drive in the afternoon. Overnight awash lodge

Awash national park to Addis Ababa

Day 24 Drive back to Addis Ababa Evening a fare well dinner party in one of the traditional Ethiopian restaurant with dances from different ethnic groups. Then transfer to The Airport for your flight back home.
