ETHIOPIA TOUR TO THE CLASSIC HISTORIC ROUTE AND HARAR
Day 1 Arrive in Addis Ababa Airport and meet one of our representatives and transfer to your hotel. Overnight M.N International hotel Addis Ababa
Day 2 An hour’s flight takes you to Bahr Dar (set at an altitude of 1800m above sea level). Boat cruise to Gondar. Full day on the Lake Tana to visit the monasteries on the islands. This day we will cross Lake Tana and we will visit 3 monasteries, Ura Kidanemihret which is a 14th C monastery and famous for its mural paintings, Daga Istafanos which is the largest monastery on the lake and founded in the late13th C and its mausoleum which contains the mummified remains of five Ethiopian emperors: Yakuno Amelak (12693), Dawit I (1428-30), Zara Yaqob (1434-68), Susneyos (1607-32) and Fasiledas (1632-76), and Monastery of DebreSina Maryam, which the murals rank with the most complex and vivid to be seen in the Tana Region. In the lat after noon we will met the car and drive to Gonder. Overnight Goha hotel Gonder.
Day 3 After Breakfast visit the castle and the church of Debre Berehan Silase. After lunch break check in to the airport fly to Axum Once one of the four great powers of the ancient world Axum. Overnight Rehmai
Day 4 We will see the remarkable stelae or obelisks, the largest single pieces of stone standing anywhere on the world. There are also tombs and castles of former monarchs, the Axum Museum and Mariam tsion Church, built on the site of Ethiopia’s firs church. A chapel with in the church compound is believed by Ethiopian Orthodox Christian to house the Ark of the Covenant, or the original tablets of Moses. Our tour starts with a visit to the museum and the stelae. Then you ascend a hill to see the castle of king kalab, passing Mai Shum (The bath of the Queen of Sheba) on the way. Coming back into town, you will see the tomb of king Basen, visit the small museum inside the church grounds, then end the day at the site known as ‘Queen Sheba’s place’ (although it is, in fact, villa of an Axumite notable from around the 1st century AD). Overnight Rehmai hotel.
Day 5 Fly to Lalibela (set at an altitude of 2,600 m. above sea level) at the end of 12th beginning of the 13th centuries, King lalibela of the Zagwe dynasty built a series of rock hewn churches, rightly acknowledged as one of the wonders of the world. Visit the first group of churches and the 3rd group of church. After lunch break visit the second group of the Lalibela churches. Overnight Mount view hotel.
Day 6 Fly back to Addis Ababa and Have a city tour of Addis Ababa.
Day 7 Drive to Arbaminch en route visiting the Rift valley Lakes of Ziway and Langano, rich in bird life and local fish market at Lake Ziway. After lunch, we will continue driving to Arbaminch on the way visiting the Chencha village, the home of the Dorze people, the renowned cotton weavers having unique beehive shaped bamboo woven houses having 8 to 12 meters height. Overnight Paradise lodge Arbaminch.
Day 8 In the morning we will drive to Jinka en route visiting different cultural people and their villages which includes, Gamo, Derashe, Konso people and undulating landscape of Konso and the surrounding area. The Konso are famous for their old and unique terracing, unusual engraved wooden statues of Konso grave markers. After having lunch on the way, we will have a stop to visit the Tsemay People around Waito River, Benna People at Key Afer, the Ari People at Kako village. Overnight, Jinka.
Day 9 Very early in the morning, drive through Mago National Park to the Mursi People, whose men are renowned warriors, and whose women are famous for the lip plates which is highly considered as sign of beauty. After a lunch break at Jinka, we will drive Turmi which will be our base for next 3 nights. Overnight, camping at Turmi
Day 10 After breakfast drive towards Omorate and cross the Omo river by local boat to visit the village of the Galeb/Dasenech People, inhabitants of the lower Omo River Valley. Overnight Turmi Camping Turmi – Dimeka Market – Turmi(I need to know the exact date that you will start the tour to coincide the market Days)
Day 11 After breakfast, we driver to Dimeka market on the way visiting one of the beautiful Hammer villages. At the colorful weakly Dimeka Market, we will see more than four different tribes including Hammer, Benna, Ari in traditional marketing activities and displaying their local handicrafts. We have a good opportunity to bargain for varieties of handicrafts. After a picnic lunch, we will drive back to Turmi village to enjoy the seasonal cultural activities including Evangadi (Hammer Dancing), Bull Jumping and associated practices as well as Hammer weeding. Overnight Turmi camping.
Day 12 Drive to Arbaminch on the way visiting the villages of Erbore People, and some local markets and villages, this actually depends on the time we have. Overnight Arbaminch in a hotel.
Day 13 After breakfast, Drive to Awassa On the way visit the Senkele Sanctuary to visit the endemic animal of the swayens hartbeast. Overnight Awassa Wabishebele Hotel.
Day 14 After breakfast visit the local awassa fish market and the bird lifes at the lake drive back to Addis Ababa On the way enjoying the Rift valley Lakes. After traditional Ethiopian Night, complimentary farewell dinner party, traditional buffet with local drinks. There will also be cultural dance show of the different ethnic group. You will be transferred to your hotel for your departure back home
