Not without hiccups during the trip though, my wife and I enjoyed very much our stay in Ethiopia.  We have gained a joyous, special and memorable experience!

I wish to express my heartfelt thankfulness to the local tour guide, Tsega'ab Getachew (Abita), who had done a really great job.  He is a sincere, proactive, and enthusiastic guy who was always timely turning up to lend a helping hand or give the laughter.  He was mindful to the concerns of customers and could always share our feelings.  Prompt in response, he was selfless in problem solving.  He mingled very well with customers yet without sacrificing a bid the alertness of his own position and responsibility.  Witted and hearty, he was beloved by all of us.  The tour would not have been so joyous and memorable without the company of this lovely guy, Abita.  I should be grateful if you could help passing on my gratitude and encouragement to Abita through his boss.

Hong Kong is famed for our level of service in various aspects.  However, it is amused to see that this lovely guy, who comes from this primitive part of the world, is teaching us the crux of "customer service".

Dear Tsegaab/ Abita

Thank you for our 27 days in Ethiopia in October 2008. It was the best holiday of our lives You planned it so quickly and presented itinerary so professionally. We had special requirements to meet our daughter’s friends in Debre Markos, Awassa and Addis Ababa and you made sure that the itinerary worked. It was very easy for us. You then put it all into action so efficiently and well.

You delivered us the best tourism experience anyone could have done anywhere in the world. You organised everything for us- hotels, meals, vehicles cook, camping equipment, entry fees and all visit arrangements, special site guides and scouts (such us for Lalebela, Simien mountains national park and Harar). You accompanied us as our guide for the northern section (14 days). So many memories – a herd of 25 Walia Ibex in the Simien Mountains mingling with the Chelada Baboons, you helping us negotiate our way through the creaking Ethiopian banking system, the traditional dancing and the funny Azmari experiences, you helping Peter climb Debre Damo, incredible Lalibela, perfect macchiato at that amazing cafe in Dessie for breakfast. So marvellous day after day of once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

For the second part of our trip (11 days) to the south and Harar you arranged for Johnny Assefa to be our guide because you already had a booking when we approached you in Addis Ababa for those days. He was excellent and just continued the fantastic treatment which we were given by you. His interest in the anthropology of the ethnic tribes made our visit to them – the Hamer, Dasenech, Konso, Arbore, Mursi (the one with the big lip plates) and Dorze people at the top of the mountain just outside Arba Minch, extraordinary and unforgettable.

Our driver for the northern section with you was Ketema Tena and he was wonderful – always patient and courteous to the other road users. When we were in Debre Markos visiting our daughter’s friend, she commented on how safe she felt with Ketema at the wheel. When Ketema could not continue for the southern part of our trip you arranged for Mefthe Ambaw to be the driver and he was extraordinarily good.

For us to visit the south we needed to camp at Jinka and Turmi and you arranged for all of the equipment and provisions we could need. You arranged Debesh Molalgn to accompany us as our cook. He was wonderful too? He served us very good food at all times. You went out of your way to make sure that we were comfortable and enjoyed ourselves. We felt personally safe at all times. There is nothing more you could have done and we are so very grateful to you – these words do not seem enough.

Please feel free to show this letter to potential clients. We would be honoured to speak about our experience because we enjoyed ourselves so much and we have such a high regards for you.

We will not try to cover what we saw or where we went beyond what we have said above – you will know all of that.
